Disaster Recovery Must Be Planned For!
There are more than just two reasons why you need to have a reliable and foolproof disaster recover plan and system in place, but the two big ones are:
Your client RFPs are demanding that you have a flip-a-switch-and-keep-working-no-matter-what-disaster-hits-you plan, and more importantly, your own business needs to be able to survive in the event of a big or little disaster. Whether it’s something as massive as a Hurricane Katrina or as simple as a burst pipe or fried hard drive, your business cannot afford to try and overcome the income loss associated with extended down time.
CR Software has several disaster recovery options and solutions that you can utilize. Our Data Replicator solution copies data in real time at the byte-by-byte level to a secondary server. This server can be located at another location and, if disaster strikes, your secondary server can be called into action at a moment’s notice, even if your primary server is burnt, under water, blown off site, crushed, eaten, or just not working correctly.
CR Software also offers a hosted version of this service where your data is replicated to an ultra secure location guarded by redundant power, auxiliary power, and superior high security, located on an internet backbone with redundant backup facilities also available. This enterprise level service could allow you to rollover to a completely different location for your call center in the event of a disaster or outage. Simply switch over to your backup without your organization skipping a beat. However demanding your disaster recover requirements are (whether they are internally mandated or client mandated), CR Software has the answer to your disaster recovery plan needs.
The CRS Data Replicator offers a disaster recovery or backup solution to the CRS mission critical applications and data. CRS Data Replicator replicates data to a second server within your enterprise in real time. It can be run locally or over a WAN/LAN/VPN and can run real time file updates at the byte level over a network connection. Data Replicator can be used as a backup or as a disaster recovery tool based on the configuration and hardware used. Virtually any server with enough drive space for your data set can be used for backup services. CRS recommends configuring a comparable server to your production server and setting up bandwidth to the disaster recovery server (DRS) to allow for a switchover for virtually no downtime at all should the production server fail.
This solution uses a networked server within your existing structure to replicate data in real time. Failover method is based on your network configuration. As a part of our disaster recovery services CR Software assists you in creating the procedures that you will need to follow in case of failure of your production server.
In this plan, you will need a backup server and a network that can support the replication. Another point of consideration is that in the event of a real disaster and full disaster recovery you will need to consider the need for ample bandwidth for all users to access the secondary server at time of failover. CR Software recommends similar hardware to the production environment.
As a part of CR Software’s ongoing support for our disaster recovery service and Data Replicator product the following services are included:
This service uses a VPN connection between the host server and a similar server located at a CR Software vendor partner in a government level secure co-location. The failover method is based on your network configuration. As a part of this service CR Software assists in creating the procedure that you will need to follow in case on a failure of the production environment.
In this plan, the server is located at a secure location that has multiple levels of redundancy and security including:
Failover time will vary based on each installation’s procedures, but as a disaster recovery benchmark CR Software customers using this service should be able to resume collection work within one hour of notification to the CR Software Disaster Recovery Team.
